Ring for England on St. George's Day 23rd May 2016
The bellringers decided that, as St. George's Day fell on a Saturday this year, we would participate in the national event to "Ring for England". It was also the week of the Queen's 90th birthday. We thought it would be good to organize a morning of activities based on St. George's day and invite the congregation and residents of Coggeshall. On the day we were able to ring 8 of our 10 bells. We rang call changes and made sure they included "Queens" where the bells are rung in the sequence 1,3,5,7,2,4,6,8 and "Whittingtons" where the sequence is 1,2,7,5,4,6,8. Try it on the piano, one being the highest note and 8 being the lowest. We organized activities which included colouring, cake decorating an glass painting and we led several visits to the ringing room to explain what we did and hopefully generated some interest in ringing. We invited those that seemed interested to visit us any Wednesday evening when we would make them very welcome. (JE)
